Muscle Contouring
Subtly reshape and refine the jaw and shoulders by targeting overactive muscles.
At FORME, muscle contouring can be used to reduce the activity and bulk of specific muscles, creating a more refined appearance over time. It can also be beneficial for patients experiencing muscle tension, pain, headaches, clenching or grinding.
What is Muscle Contouring?
Muscle contouring involves treating specific muscles to temporarily reduce their ability to contract.
Over time, reduced muscle activity can lead to a gradual reduction in muscle bulk, creating changes to the shape and contour of the treated area.
Treatment is carefully tailored to your individual anatomy and goals, with an emphasis on subtle, balanced and natural-looking results.
Masseter Contouring
The masseter muscles are located at the back of the jaw and play an important role in chewing. In some individuals, frequent clenching or grinding can cause these muscles to become enlarged or overactive, contributing to a wider or more square appearance through the lower face.
Reducing masseter muscle activity can help to create a softer, more tapered lower-face appearance over time.
Masseter treatment may also be used as part of a treatment plan for bruxism (teeth clenching and grinding). Reducing excessive muscle activity may help relieve associated symptoms such as jaw tension, headaches and discomfort. It is important to note that treatment does not replace assessment or management by your dentist or other appropriate healthcare professional where required.
Trapezius Contouring
The trapezius muscle extends across the upper back and shoulders and plays an important role in posture and movement of the head, neck and shoulders.
For some individuals, the upper trapezius can become particularly prominent or overactive, contributing to a feeling of tension and a more elevated or bulky appearance through the shoulders.
Treatment of the upper trapezius can reduce muscle activity and, over time, may create a softer, more relaxed shoulder contour.
It may be particularly suitable for individuals who experience significant muscle tension or who would like to refine the appearance of the upper shoulder area.
What to Expect
Your appointment begins with an in-depth consultation where we discuss your concerns, medical history and treatment goals.
Following informed consent and, where appropriate, a prescription,we will assess your anatomy and carefully mark the treatment area.
The treatment itself generally takes approximately 10–15 minutes.
We will guide you through the procedure and ensure you are comfortable throughout.
Following Your Treatment
You may experience some temporary effects following treatment, including:
Redness
Swelling
Bruising
Itchiness
Tenderness of treated area
These effects generally settle naturally following treatment. You will receive detailed aftercare instructions both verbally and via email.
When Will I See Results?
Treatment begins to take effect gradually, with initial changes generally becoming noticeable within the first few days.
As muscle activity reduces and muscle bulk gradually changes, results become more apparent over the following weeks. Your results will be reviewed at a follow-up appointment, generally around 4 weeks after treatment.
How Long Do Results Last?
Results generally last approximately 3-6 months, although this varies between individuals depending on the treatment area, muscle activity and individual response.
With ongoing treatment, your Nurse can develop a maintenance plan based on your individual needs.
